Facebook's Mobile News Feed Gets A Makeover: Company Looks To Improve The Cell Phone Version Of The Popular Social Networking Site

Facebook is rolling out a new look for its mobile news feed, according to Techcrunch.com.

The website reports Facebook has sent invitations to press promising a new look for the social website's news feed, to be held March 7 at 10 a.m. PT.

In January, Facebook announced the preparation for this new-look-news-feed for mobile devices.

During that time, Josh Constine of Techcrunch witnessed the redesign plans.

Constine said he'd seen on an iOS test build that evolved the look of the mobile news feed, including full-screen photo tiles and text overlaid on images. The new look is more in keeping with info streams in other mobile apps, like Google+ and Flipboard.

Facebook wants to improve the backend aspects of its apps for iPhone and Android, adding features like free VoIP calling for users in the U.S. and Canada.

Techcrunch said that since the apps have been greatly improved, bringing benefits for loading and launch times, as well as general performance, it makes sense that the company would turn its attentions to improving the Facebook app's aesthetic elements.

Techcrunch says Facebook has made improvements on its newsfeed, but now the company is taking the necessary steps to make it even better.

The company reportedly updated the news feed with a much more media-focused look. It is expected that the new design will only improve on the last round of updates back in May.

In 2012, the SEC database reported that Facebook generated $5.1 billion last year.

Over one billion people actively use Facebook.
