'The Bible' Miniseries on History Channel Bit of Drama However Message Intact

A new miniseries titled "The Bible" premiered on Sunday on the History Channel. The producer Mark Burnett is known for reality television hits like "Survivor," "Celebrity Apprentice," and "The Voice."

"My feeling is that over the next 30 years, it wouldn't be wrong to think a billion people will see this," says Mark Burnett. "Or perhaps more."

Burnett spent four years alongside his wife, actress Roma Downey filming the five-part, 10 hour look in to the Bible, "We're trying to tell the story of God's love for his people." The first of five two-hour series will air each weekend, the finale is set to air on Easter Sunday.

"The Bible's" website states the show will depict dramatizations of some of the best-known stories from the Bible including Noah's ark, the Israelites' exodus, and the birth of Jesus.

According to Downey, the couple "saw this as an opportunity engage people in new and exciting ways to consider these stories and re-experience them."

Burnett said the series is to depict the countless stories of the Bible to "create a moving story."

"The first decision was, it's one story," Burnett said. "It's not a series of unconnected stories, it's one grand narrative. You could call it the meta narrative."

The filming of the series took place in Morocco and is to air over five Sunday in March through March 31. Besides airing on the History Channel, Lifetime will air a repeat each week after a new episode. It will also be released on DVD expected to go on sale this spring.
