Copperfield Emergency Landing: World Famous Magician Is 'Happy To Be On The Ground And Safe'

David Copperfield was part of an emergency landing Monday when his plane was forced to touch down in Illinois. The flight was reportedly disrupted by strange noises coming from the airplane.

The famous magician was flying to New York from Las Vegas to appear on Today. A sudden loud sound in the plane forced the flight crew to make the emergency landing at Byerly Aviation in Bartonville, Illinois. All of the private plane's passengers were returned safely to the ground, despite being a bit shaken up over the situation.

Copperfield admitted to being nervous and unsettled by the experience. The illusionist posted several Twitter messages about the unexpected stopover, one of which read, "Everyone is ok. Emergency landing in Peoria, Illinois. So scary."

Copperfield, who was born David Seth Kotkin, described the noise as a "crackling" sound. According to the magician, the airplane was thousands of feet in the air when the noise was heard.

The persistence of the strange sound prompted the flight personnel to do the emergency landing , and they announced to the passengers aboard their plan to bring the plane down safely.

Airport officials have indicated that the emergency landing was made around 2:30 am on Monday.

Once he was safe on the ground again, Copperfield got back on Twitter to share his relief. He wrote that he was "happy to be on the ground and safe."

In the end, however, the famed magician was not able to make it to his guest appearance on Monday morning's edition of Today. He did, however join the show via Skype from Illinois.

In his interview with Matt Lauer, Copperfield detailed the events of the emergency landing.

"I heard this [crackling] sound and it wouldn't stop," he said. "I felt kind of freaked out and they told us we have to go back for our descent. We were going in a spiral with G force, and we finally got to the ground ... and it turned out there was snow all around."

He also said he recorded the scary sound with his cell phone.

Even though he was still recovering from his stressful early morning flight, Copperfield was faithful to his fans watching his virtual appearance on the show. He performed an impressive illusion from inside the airport hangar in Illinois, with the help of a willing airport employee.

Following Copperfield's scary emergency landing, the magician flew to Las Vegas for two performances.

He is scheduled to appear on Today in person next week.
