Harrison Ford Role In 'Anchorman 2': Channeling Tom Brokaw For Inspiration

Harrison Ford has officially joined the cast of "Anchorman: The Legend Continues."  His role will be that of an esteemed veteran news anchor. It has been suggested the veteran actor will play it "a la Tom Brokaw."

He joins the returning cast of Will Ferrell, Christina Applegate, Steve Carell, David Koechner and Paul Rudd as well as fellow newcomers Kristen Wiig, James Marsden, Dylan Baker and Meagan Good for the Adam McKay film.

The sequel to the 2004 hit "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy" is already expected to be bigger and better than the original with the addition of the new cast members. However, the plot details for the sequel are being kept quiet.

Ferrell and McKay wrote the screenplay and are producing the film. Judd Apatow and Kevin Messick also are coming on as producers.

This will be the first slapstick comedy Harrison Ford has filmed since "The Frisco Kid" in 1979.

While he may be a bit rusty with the jokes, Ford has previously played a newscaster in the rom-com "Morning Glory."  He has also appeared in several other romantic comedies over the years including "Six Days Seven Nights," "Working Girl," and "Serena."

Harrison Ford has been thrust back into the limelight recently after it was rumored he will be reprising his iconic role of Han Solo for the next installment in the Star Wars saga, "Star Wars: Episode VII."

The 70-year-old actor has a full dance card this year. Fans will be able to see Ford in the Jackie Robinson biopic "42" (due out April 12), the Robert Luketic thriller "Paranoia," and the promising adaptation of "Ender's Game."

"Anchorman 2" is about to start production in Atlanta, Georgia. It is expected to be released in theaters on December 20th of this year.

"Star Wars: Episode VII" is scheduled for release in 2015.
