George Zimmerman Won’t Have A “Stand Your Ground” Hearing In Trayvon Martin Murder Case

The Florida man George Zimmerman, accused of killing the teen Trayvon Martin, stunned the court today when he refused to have a "stand your ground" hearing.

In Florida there is a "stand your ground law" which allows a person who feels their life is in danger to use deadly force in order to protect themself.

Zimmerman was expected to use this law to justify his shooting of Trayvon Martin.

George Zimmerman is charged with second degree murder in the shooting of Trayvon Martin, and incident that has divided the nation, some on Zimmerman's side, others with the family of Trayvon Martin.

Zimmerman says he shot the teen after Martin confronted him while walking to a nearby house.  If Zimmerman had accepted a "stand your ground", or immunity, hearing and the Judge accepted his version of events, he could have walked free.

Zimmerman's lawyer, Mark O'Mara told CNN "We don't have time ... to spend two weeks or so on an immunity hearing."

George Zimmerman's trial will begin June 10.
