Carly Rae Jepsen Pulls Out Of Boy Scouts Jamboree Concert To Support Gay Rights; ‘Call Me Maybe’ Singer Believes In “Equality For All People”

Carly Rae Jepsen has taken a stand against the Boy Scouts over gay rights by pulling out of a performance she had scheduled at July's Boy Scouts of America Jamboree.

The Carly Rae Jepsen - Boy Scouts drama was confirmed by the 27-year-old Canadian "Call Me Maybe" singer via Twitter.

The Boy Scouts event is held once every four years, and was expected to draw more than 45,000 attendees.

Jepsen tweeted on Tuesday about her withdrawal from the Boy Scouts concert:

"As an artist who believes in equality for all people, I will not be participating in the Boy Scouts of America Jamboree this summer. I always have and will continue to support the LGBT community on a global level and stay informed on the ever-changing landscape in the ongoing battle for gay rights in this country and across the globe."

On March 4, the band Train joined Carly Rae Jepsen when they also pulled out of the concert for the same reason.

They stated, "When we booked this show for the Boy Scouts of America we were not aware of any policy barring openly gay people from participation within the organization. Train strongly opposes any kind of policy that questions the equality of any American citizen."

"We have always seen the BSA as a great and noble organization. We look forward to participating in the Jamboree this summer, as long as they make the right decision before then," the statement concluded.

Jepsen and Train refused to take part in the concert after a petition that sought support in condemning the Boy Scouts' discriminatory policies went viral on Change.org, according to Yahoo News.

A former Boy Scout leader who was fired for being gay created the petition, which currently has over 65,000 signatures.

The Boy Scouts of America director of public policy, Deron Smith, said that the BSA appreciates "everyone's right to express an opinion" and that the organization stay focused on producing a great jamboree, according to CBS.
