Cannibal Cop NYC Trial Update: New York Police Officer Gilberto Valle Won’t Testify At His Trial

'Cannibal Cop' and NYC Police Officer Gilberto Valle has been held without bail since October, when he was arrested for conspiring to kidnap women in a cannibalism plot.

A lawyer for 'Cannibal Cop' Gilberto Valle recently told a judge that her client would not testify at his trial. She claimed that the defense is narrowing its case, and that the case would be wrapped up quickly, according to the NYT.

The Cannibal Cop's trial began on Monday, March 4. Valle's lawyers have continually attacked government evidence as nothing more than the reflection of a man engaging in sexual fantasies with like-minded people.

The government has conceded that Valle never met his Internet 'co-conspirators' and that no women were actually harmed.

On Thursday, the judge reportedly said, "There is almost no evidence of action by Valle beyond computer-based activity."

The prosecution finished presenting their case on Monday by showing the jury images and video taken from Valle's computer.

Prosecutors in the case had showed jurors pictures of dead and dismembered people as they concluded their case, although defense lawyers opposed the presentation of as many as 34 images that the government claims it took from Officer Gilberto Valle's computer.

The defense lawyers are attempting to convince the judge that the photos are not relevant, by claiming that the computer automatically saved the photos, and that Valle never may have seen them when he went on certain websites.

However, Valle's wife testified that she saw one mutilated woman photo when she went to one of his favorite Internet sites when she tried to find out why her husband stayed up so late on the computer.

The defense is ready to make their case, stating that Valle was simply role playing when he spoke in dramatic detail about killing and cooking at least six acquaintances, including his wife.

The defense had prepared a video testimony of the creator of a dark fetish site who claims people commonly engage in role play on his website.

There was a great deal of speculation as to whether 'Cannibal Cop' Valle would have to take the stand himself to show that there was no 'true second participant' in the alleged conspiracy to kill and eat women, only role-playing internet friends.

Edward Vas, the defense attorney, said, "If this case goes forward, Mr. Valle may well have to take the stand" and recount all his sexual fantasies since his teenage years. However, another lawyer for the case today said that Valle would exercise his 5th Amendment right and not take the stand.

Valle was arrested in October after his wife discovered the chats on his computer and turned the computer over to the FBI in Nevada.

In court, FBI agent Corey Walsh told jurors that a search of Valle's computer revealed a file with multiple photos of a woman that the agent claimed was an NYPD officer who supervised Valle.

This find was relevant in light of an email exchange in which Valle offered a co-conspirator a selection of women he could abduct for future torture.

"The second girl listed is a cop - Evelyn, 33 years old," Valle wrote.

"No I want a reg girl," the man responded.

The defense attorney also pointed out obvious falsehoods in communications that the government has used as evidence to show that Valle was a threat.

In one, Valle's co-conspirator claimed that he and Valle would need a secluded place to cook women alive.

FBI Agent Walsh, when asked if it was true, testified that authorities aren't aware of a place Valle had in the mountains. This points to the idea that Valle's 'plans' were simply sick fantasies.

The trial of the 'Cannibal Cop' is expected to continue over the next several days.
