Tom Cruise Lawsuit With Bauer Publishing Moved To Private Mediation; Attorney Calls Bauer ‘Serial Defamers’, Asserts Cruise ‘Adores His Child’ Suri

The Tom Cruise lawsuit has been moved to private mediation, according to papers filed in U.S. District Court in Central California on Friday, March 1.

So, fans of actor Tom Cruise won't be able to read about his lawsuit in popular tabloids or magazines.

The move to make Tom Cruise's lawsuit private did not come as a surprise; according to the AP, a motion was filed last month that indicated the case would move to private mediation if the suit wasn't settled 45 days prior to the final pre-trial conference.

Bert Fields, Cruise's attorney, has commented that the actor will probably not be settling on this case involving his daughter, Suri, and Bauer Publications - specifically Life & Style and In Touch magazines.

In October, Cruise filed a $50 million defamation lawsuit against Bauer after the magazines claimed that Cruise had abandoned Suri after he split from his wife, Katie Holmes.

Attorney Fields has denied the tabloids' reports, at one point calling them "a disgusting, vicious lie," and calling Bauer "serial defamers."

Bauer has claimed that its statements regarding Cruise are "substantially true."

The Wrap recently reported that Cruise's legal team said that it expected to seek information relating to Bauer's "history of bigotry and hatred toward minority religious groups and their members," probably referring to Cruise's participation in the Church of Scientology.

Fields said on Thursday that Cruise never abandoned Suri, explaining, "He talks to her every day, sometimes many times a day. It's just the opposite of what they said in the magazine."

Fields continued, "They are together all the time. He is a very caring father and that is at the heart of this lawsuit," according to E! News. He added that Cruise, "just adores his child"

The next hearing will take place on April 29, according to Mail Online.

Tom Cruise can be seen in the science fiction film Oblivion, set to release on April 19, 2013, and in IMAX theaters on April 12.
