Steven Tyler Act Passes In Hawaiian Senate: Law Proposed By Aerosmith Frontman Would Prevent Paparrazzi From 'Violating' Celebrities' Privacy

The Steven Tyler Act passed in the Hawaiian state Senate on Tuesday. The law would make it a civil violation for paparazzi take unwanted photographs or videos "of others in their private moments" in Hawaii.

23 of Hawaii's 25 Senate members voted in favor of the bill, which will now go to the House for consideration.

The local rule known is known as the "Steven Tyler Act" because the Aerosmith frontman approached the courts in Hawaii recently in order to protect celebrities. Tyler owns a multi-million dollar mansion in Hawaii.

"The paradise of Hawaii is a magnet for celebrities who just want a peaceful vacation," Tyler said, the website UltimateClassicRock reported. "As a person in the public eye, I know the paparazzi are there and we have to accept that. But when they intrude into our private space, disregard our safety and the safety of others, that crosses a serious line that shouldn't be ignored," said Tyler,

The rockstar was inspired to pursue legal action after pictures of Steven Tyler and his current girlfriend were taken at their home in Maui caused drama within Tyler's family.

Aerosmith has won 31 awards during their more than 30-year career, including four Grammy awards. Tyler was also listed as one of Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Singers in the 2012 issue of the magazine.

According to UltimateClassicRock, supporters of the Steven Tyler Act include such celebrities as Mick Fleetwood, the Osborne family, and Britney Spears. These stars have argued that intrusive paparazzi make it hard to enjoy simple activities with family and friends while in Hawaii and in general.

"The Bill SB465 will curb the practice of photographers using long-range lenses and audio equipment to capture photos of celebrities in their homes. It will allow legal charges against such people," Fleetwood said about the Steven Tyler Act, according to the Associated Press.
