Nene Leakes’ Dog Left In Parked Car While ‘Real Housewife Of Atlanta’ Shopped; Police Called To Rescue Dog, ‘Playa’

Real Housewives of Atlanta star Nene Leakes had to call the police in Beverley Hills when she locked her dog and her keys in her car.

Nene Leakes lives in Los Angeles in order to film her show on NBC "The New Normal."

Her Yorkie named Playa was trapped in the car until police came and were able to set the little guy free. Luckily the dog was not harmed. Leakes fans took to Twitter later saying,

"Glad to hear playa is ok."

The situation with Playa could have been a lot worse. A dog left in a warm car can suffer serious health problems and even death if left alone, even for a few minutes.

According to the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals or PETA, a dog left in a car can suffer brain damage and die from heat stroke. Dogs do not have sweat glands and can only cool themselves by panting.

A car left out in the sun, even on a cool 78 degree day can hit temperatures between 100 and 120 degrees. The hotter the outside temperature the hotter the car will get and the greater danger your dog will be in.

It can take less than 15 minutes for a dog to succumb to heat stroke. Spring is on its way and so is the warm weather, so remember to take your dog out of the car when you are running errands. Try not to forget him or your keys in the car.
