Valerie Harper Diagnosed With Terminal Brain Cancer: Doctors Say Star Has Five Months To Live, Possibly Less [VIDEO]

Valerie Harper has been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.

Doctors have informed Harper that she has three to five months to live, People Magazine reported Wednesday.

The beloved star of iconic television programs "Mary Tyler Moore," "Rhoda" and "Valerie," Harper says she is not focusing on the diagnosis, instead choosing to live out her life with dignity and grace.

"I don't think of dying," Harper said. "I think of being here now."

After a long series of tests, Harper was reportedly diagnosed with a rare condition called leptomeningeal carcinomatosis that causes cancer cells to spread to the membrane that surrounds the brain.

Harper, who battled lung cancer back in 2009, is 73.

Several Valerie Harper fans took to Twitter Wednesday to show their support for the actress and writer upon hearing the news.

"So sad to hear about Valerie Harper's brain cancer," wrote Heidi Harris We all loved, you Rhoda! You brought us MUCH joy."

"Sending prayers," tweeted SueJ.

Former talk show host Sally Jessy Raphael also tweeted her support for Valerie.

"Tragic news about Valerie Harper. She has terminal brain cancer [was given] just 3 months [to live]," Raphael wrote. "Sending prayers, love & gratitude for her wonderful work."
