The Roku 3 was released on Wednesday and several new features make the new streaming device the best one on the market.

The new Roku 3 set-top box, is smaller, sleeker, and promises to be the best streamer available.

The digital media receiver allows customers to access online media from the comfort of their own living rooms. With the Roku 3 internet videos and audio files are streamed through televisions. Content includes subscription-based services as well as services that are available through the receiver free of charge.

The $99 box, replaces the Roku 2 and includes many new features. Among them, the Roku 3 has a faster processor, stronger Wi-Fi and, maybe most importantly, a new centralized searching system.

In the older Roku models if a customer wanted to find a movie or TV show they would have to search each app individually. Now, with the Roku 3, customers have a central search menu where everything can be accessed at once.

"This makes it more seamless," says Ali Vassigh, Roku's user experience director.

Which is a great thing for users, as the Roku 3 contains over 750 different channels with more reportedly on the way. Among the most popular are Netflix, Amazon and Hulu, among 750 total channels.

Soon to be available to Roku 3 users are PBS, PBS Kids and Time Warner Cable.

Another exciting update made to the Roku 3 is the remote control.

Now there is a jack on the side which, when headphones are plugged in, mutes the sound of the TV, allowing you to continue watching without disrupting others.

Additionally, the Roku 3 remote no longer uses a infrared signal to control the device, meaning users no longer have to point it at the device in order to operate it.

Even with strong competitors providing similar services, such as smart TVs, internet-connected Blu-ray players, and Apple TV, Roku has been a big success. The company has had 5 million units sold since the original Roku was released in 2008.

The new Roku 3 goes on sale at Roku.com and Amazon this week but will not be sold in stores until next month.
