Source Claims Sofia Vergara To Have A Baby Through Surrogate: 'Modern Family' Star Desperate To Have Second Child

Sofia Vergara is planning to have a baby through a surrogate with her fiancé, Nick Loeb, according to The New York Post.

A star from "Modern Family" has asked a close friend to act as a surrogate for their child.

The surrogacy process in its early stages, the NYP reported.

A source close to the Vergara told The Post, "The child will be biologically Sofia and Nick's baby, and she has selected a surrogate - who is a very close girlfriend - to carry the baby.

Vergara gave birth to a son in 1992. The 40-year-old actress is in the beginning process of the surrogacy, the source told the NYP.

"A procedure has taken place, and Sofia and Nick will find out in a few weeks if it was successful, if the surrogate is pregnant, and if they will become parents."

In 1998, Vergara's older brother, Rafael, was murdered in Columbia. In 2011, Vergara's younger brother, Julio, was deported from the United States to Colombia after being arrested in April, CBS News reported.

"To see somebody dying over 10 years, little by little, that's the worst punishment," Vergara told Parade magazine. "Now he's like another person."

Vergara was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2000 in which she successfully overcame.

The source added, "A baby is something they've both wanted for a while, particularly Nick, who has been pushing for it. He is a little uneasy that the surrogate is Sofia's close friend, but is very excited about becoming a father."

The couple married in May of last year.
