Detectives appearing on the UK on Classic FM radio program "The Alan Titchmarsh Show" Tuesday said that crime dramas like "CSI" give viewers an unrealistic expectation of what police are capable of, particularly under strapped budgets.

Ex-detective Peter Whent and former Detective Inspector Ron Cook said they appeared on "The Alan Titchmarsh Show" to give the public a more honest picture of what cops can do.

"People are getting much more aware about CSI because of television," Whent said. "My sense is they actually expect more of the police than the police can give them because of budget restraints. The perception you get from television is that they rush in and crack the case very quickly, but it's often not like that."

Since they retired from the police force, Whent and Cook opened a business that creates CSI-themed problem solving challenges for schoolchildren in Chelmsford.

"What we wanted to do was give people an idea of how CSI really works," Whent said.

Last month, Titchmarsh, who is also known for his BBC coverage The Chelsea Flower Show, announced a partnership with British supermarket Waitrose, according to the Telegraph.

Titchmarsh will reportedly write articles for Waitrose publications, as well as appear on the company's website and television advertisements.

"Having spent almost my entire life growing everything from fruit and vegetables to flowers and plants I am delighted to have this opportunity of working with Waitrose to help raise the profile of British agriculture and horticulture," Titchmarsh said.
