Elisabeth Hasselbeck Leaving 'The View' Denied By ABC - Host 'Has A Long Term Contract'

Elisabeth Hasselbeck leaving "The View" reports Us Weekly, but ABC releases a vague statement. So what is really going on here?

Us Weekly reported on Friday that conservative voice, Elisabeth Hasselbeck has been ousted from the ABC morning talk show, "The View."

The magazine cites unnamed sources in its claim that Hasselbeck leaving is related to her conservative views and unpopularity with the audience.

Quoting the anonymous sources, Us Weekly reported that the conservative co-host is leaving after market researchers found that her political opinions were clashing with the viewers.

"People did not watch the show because of Elisabeth. So they told her yesterday her contract would not be renewed," a source told Us Weekly.

This news, of course, is following the recent report from Deadline that said that her future on the ABC show was "unclear."

After Us Weekly reported that Hasselbeck is leaving, TV Newser posted a very similar story.

The news website's writer, Alex Weprin, also cited two sources who said Hasselbeck was leaving.

However, ABC said in a statement to USA Today, "Elisabeth Hasselbeck is a valued member of "The View" and has a long term contract."

Hasselbeck has also not yet commented on the rumors.

Some have speculated that Hasselbeck and producers are in talks about a possible contract settlement. And others have suggested that perhaps in the wake of Joy Behar's announcement on Thursday to leave the show, maybe the ABC talk show is looking to revitalize its image entirely.

And even more have argued that if Hasselbeck's conservatism is a problem with audiences, "The View" would not have been able to maintain its ratings success over her nearly 10 years as a host.

In fact, Hasselbeck's conflict and political arguments with the other hosts has been a key aspect of the show and perhaps without it, the show will lose variety and depth.

And Hasselbeck leaving would mean that next season "The View" will suddenly be without two longtime hosts. The show has had the same cast since 2007.
