Elisabeth Hasselbeck Leaving The View: Brooke Shields In Talks To Replace Her

Elizabeth Hasselbeck, right wing host of ABC's daytime talk show, The View will not be returning to the program, an insider reports.

After hosting for 9 years, "the viewers they polled all said she was too extreme and right-wing," an insider told UsMagazine.com Friday. "People did not watch the show because of Elisabeth. So they told her yesterday her contract would not be renewed."

Most noted for berating the Obama administration, Hasselbeck often clashed with the other hosts over her conservative political and social views.

Showbiz411 exclusively reports that network sources reveal that actress Brooke Shields is in talks with producers on replacing her. Shields is a Democrat and graduate of Princeton University.

The news comes on the cusp of Joy Behar's announcement that she will be leaving at the end of the current season in August.

"You reach a point where you say, 'Do I want to keep doing this?'," Behar told Deadline.com last week. "There are other things on my plate I want to do. I've been writing a play. I've been neglecting my stand-up."

No word has emerged yet on who will be replacing Behar.
