Indiana Head Coach Exchange With Michigan Coach: Tom Crean Blames Former Indiana Assistant Jeff Meyer For 'Wrecking Program' Later Apologizes [VIDEO]

Indiana Head Coach Tom Crean said Monday that he apologized to Jeff Meyer for his heated exchange with the Michigan assistant after Indiana's one point victory over Michigan on Sunday to secure the outright Big Ten regular-season crown.

"You know what you did," Crean yelled out at Meyer. "You helped wreck the progam. You helped wreck our program!"

Crean was held back by another coach, then proceeded to walk toward the locker room with a big smile.

"On the way to the plane, I talked to him on the telephone. We discussed a couple of things and I apologized. In retrospect, I wish I had never addressed anything after the heat of battle in a game, but I did and we move on. End of story," Crean said on a conference call, ESPN reported.

Jeff Meyer was an assistant with the Indiana Hoosiers under former head coach, Kelvin Sampson.

Sampson was forced to resign as head coach due to allegations of five NCAA violations in 2008.

Sampson knowingly violated telephone recruiting restrictions imposed on him. The NCAA also alleged that Sampson lied to Illinois University and NCAA officials regarding his involvement in the impermissible calls with Eric Gordon, who IU said was committed to play for its program, ESPN reported.

After Sampson's three-year tenure with the Hoosiers, Tom Crean was hired as the head coach.

Crean lost star player Eric Gordon to the NBA draft. His first season with the Hoosiers had the team finish with a 6-25 record. He followed that with a 10-25 record and then a 12-25 for the 2011-2012 season, according to ESPN.com.

It wasn't until last season that Indiana finished above .500 with Crean as its head coach. The team made it to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Championship Tournament and 27-9 record.

The 2012-2013 regular-season finished Sunday and Indiana finished first in the Big Ten and a 25-5 overall record.

Crean's outburst came after defeating Michigan, which claimed possession of the Big Ten regular-season title for Indiana and Crean's first title with the team. Even though Crean yelled in the direction of Jeff Meyer, Meyer was cleared by the NCAA of wrongdoing at Indiana in regard to major violations, ESPN reported. He recruits the state of Indiana heavily for Michigan.

"Jeff and I discussed it afterwards," Michigan Head Coach John Beilein said in a press conference. "I'm not going to comment on another coach or another university. I will say Michigan is always going to win with class and lose with class. I am really proud of the way Jeff showed great poise in the aftermath of that loss."

Meyer was not made available for comment.
