11 Hurt In D.C. Shooting: Two Cars Sped Down Road, Spraying Bullets Into Crowd Standing Outside Club At 2 AM [VIDEO]

11 people were hurt after a drive-by shooting outside an apartment building in northwest Washington D.C. early on Monday, March 11.

One of the 11 people shot was seriously hurt, police reported to the Associated Press.

The seriously hurt victim had been shot in the back, but none of the injuries are considered life threatening. The victims were all reported conscious and breathing, as they were either grazed by bullets or shot in the extremities, according to the Associated Press.

The D.C. shooting occurred at about 2:10 am around New York Avenue and North Capitol Street.

Police Chief Cathy Lanier said the gunman in a speeding car opened fire on a crowd standing outside an apartment building.

A surveillance video from the scene shows gunshots being fired as two cars speed down the street while a group of people on the sidewalk scattered and scrambled for cover. Police said the gunshots came from at least one of the two cars.

The cars appear to be an older-model BMW and a light or grey sedan.

The police released the surveillance video to the public with hopes that the two gunmen or their cars could be identified.

Police didn't release a motive for the gunners, and detectives were still interviewing witnesses and collecting forensic evidence at the crime scene.

Peter Newsham, Assistant Police Chief, said, "We've got to interview a ton [of witnesses]."

One witness, Jonique Douglas, said, "They shooting like directly at us. It coulda been a bloody mess."

The shooting occurred in the same region where multiple people were shot and wounded throughout October 2012, although a connection has yet to be made between the shootings.

It is still unknown why the crowd was standing outside at such an early hour, although Chief Lanier said that a nearby club had closed its doors 15 minutes prior to the shooting.

"Whether they came from the club, I'm not sure. There is usually a pretty good crowd out here - Saturday night, Sunday night," Lanier said.
