Queen Elizabeth Cancels Engagement At Westminster Abbey Due To Illness

Queen Elizabeth II had to cancel an engagement on Monday because of illness, but officials say her health is health is not a serious concern.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman announced the change of plans, saying: "The queen will regrettably no longer attend the Commonwealth observance at Westminster Abbey today as she continues to recover following her recent illness."

Queen Elizabeth will still attend a reception on Monday night, however.

She also has no plans to change her schedule of other official engagements throughout the week.

The canceled engagement comes after Elizabeth was discharged from the hospital last week. She is reportedly in good health, but the very busy Queen Elizabeth needed some extra time to completely recover.

Her trip to the hospital was the first in ten years for the 86-year-old queen. She remained in the hospital for three days before being released.

The stomach bug that put the queen in the hospital also forced her to cancel a planned visit to Italy.

But her place in Westminster Abbey will not stay empty - her husband, Prince Phillip will attend the service in her place.

In general, Queen Elizabeth has had to reduce her number of foreign visits in recent years, but the always busy queen still maintains an very active domestic schedule.

She is also the subject of a lot of praise and admiration the world over. Queen Elizabeth has always been popular, but in recent years, she has been the center of even more attention. She recently celebrated her 60th year on the throne and the engagement and subsequent marriage of her grandson Prince William kept the spotlight on the royal family.

Royal officials have confirmed that Queen Elizabeth's health is not a concern and the cancelation of the Westminster Abbey engagement today was allow her some extra time to rest and recover from her recent illness.

Even though Queen Elizabeth canceled her engagement on Monday, she still plans on signing an anti-discrimination measure later in the day.
