Military Plane Crash Kills 3 in Eastern Washington State, During Routine Training Flight [VIDEO]

A military plane from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island crashed in Eastern Washington during a routine training flight Monday morning.

The Northrop Grumman EA-6B Prowler was reported to have gone down at about 8:45 a.m. Monday local time in Lincoln County killing all three crew members on board.

The identities of the crew were not immediately available as the Navy was withholding the names until the family members of the victims are notified.

"It was flying out there. I don't know exactly what it was doing," said Mike Welding, a spokesman for Naval Air Systems Command. "Everything is really preliminary at this point."

Navy said they are conducting an investigation of the crash which occurred roughly 50 miles east of Spokane, where the Prowler was "engaged in a low-level navigation training mission."

"First responders are on the scene and have reported finding partial remains of the mishap aircrew," the Navy informed Congress. "All three onboard are presumed dead."

Stan Dammel, the manager of the Odessa airport said he flew over the scene after hearing the crash.

"It just looked like an explosion," Dammel said.

"The thoughts and prayers of northwest Washington are with the families of the aircrew who lost their lives today," said U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen, D-Wash., who represents the Whidbey Island area. "This tragic crash is a painful reminder of the dangerous work that members of the armed services perform every day in service to our nation."
