'I'm Not Dying Until I Do' Valerie Harper Says After Doctors Give Her Six Months To Live In Terminal Cancer Diagnosis [VIDEO]

"I'm Not Dying Until I Do" Valerie Harper told Savannah Guthrie on the "Today" show Monday in the "Mary Tyler Moore" star's first television interview since doctors gave her three to six months to live, in a terminal brain cancer diagnosis.

Harper, who played Rhoda Morganstern the iconic sitcom and its spinoff, Rhoda says she is "more than hopeful...I have an intention to live each moment fully."

"Incurable is a tough word," Harper said.

She added, "I don't mean this to be Pollyanna. I allow myself the grief."

Harper told Guthrie that she is glad she decided to go public with her diagnosis.

"I also feel so much better not hiding," she said. "It feels awful damn good to be open about it, face it and see what you can do. If you die, you're not a failure. You're just somebody who had cancer. And that's the outcome."

Harper elaborated on how she maintains such a positive attitude to People Magazine last week.

"I don't think of dying," she said. "I think of being here now."

After a long series of tests, Harper was reportedly diagnosed with a rare condition called leptomeningeal carcinomatosis that causes cancer cells to spread to the membrane that surrounds the brain.

Harper, who battled lung cancer back in 2009, is 73.

Several Valerie Harper fans took to Twitter on Wednesday to show their support for the actress and writer upon hearing the news.

"So sad to hear about Valerie Harper's brain cancer," wrote Heidi Harris We all loved, you Rhoda! You brought us MUCH joy."

"Sending prayers," tweeted SueJ.

Former talk show host Sally Jessy Raphael also tweeted her support for Valerie.

"Tragic news about Valerie Harper. She has terminal brain cancer [was given] just 3 months [to live]," Raphael wrote. "Sending prayers, love & gratitude for her wonderful work."
