Yankees Are Like Brokeback Mountain? Announcer Doug Glanville Likens 2013 New York Yankees Lineup To The 2005 Cowboy Film

ESPN's Doug Glanville said the New York Yankees were like 'Brokeback Mountain' during the Yankees' spring training game in Florida yesterday, March 11.

Glanville likened the Yankees lineup to Brokeback Mountain while he was announcing the Yankees-Cardinals spring training game alongside broadcast partner Jon Sciambi.

Sciambi attempted to make conversation about how old, injured, and beat-up the 2013 New York Yankees seem this year, when Doug Glanville said:

"They have basically Brokeback Mountain going on over here. I mean everybody's on the disabled list or hurt in some form or fashion."

Brokeback Mountain is the 2005 Oscar-nominated film that starred the late Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal. The film, although it had many themes, became known as "the gay cowboy movie."

So, whether Glanville knew it or not, he was likening the New York Yankees lineup to cowboys who had a homosexual experience while herding cattle.

Yahoo Sports stated that this probably isn't what Glanville meant by his remark.

It is more likely that Glanville was trying to make a pun or analogy that emphasized how 'broken down' and injured the Yankees players seem this year.

Although Glanville's analogy was way off, he was right in that the Yankees lineup has taken a beating this spring.

Alex Rodriguez is currently out due to hip surgery,  Teixeira will be out for at least eight weeks due to a strained right wrist, and Granderson will be out until mid-May because of a fractured right forearm.

Unless the Yankees can pick up some replacement offensive players, it looks like the New York team will have a tough time this season.
