Baptism Party Brawl: California Man Sentenced To Year In Jail After Stabbing Partygoer For Dancing With Wife

A California man was sentenced to a year in jail for stabbing a partygoer during a baptism party brawl for trying to dance with his wife.

28-year-old Yasmani Ramirez of Redwood City pleaded no contest in the baptism party brawl case and agreed to pay approximately $1000 in restitution, according to Tuesday's edition of the San Francisco Chronicle.

In November, Ramirez was at a baptism party when another man touched his wife on her back, asking for a dance. Ramirez allegedly argued with that man and several others who joined in, which escalated into a brawl.

Ramirez then drew a knife and stabbed the man in his stomach. Ramirez cut the victim on his arms when he tried to shield his face, according to authorities.

"These are relatively young people - testosterone is still running rampant in them. It turned into a couple of wild male elk in mating season locking horns - except for one party, the horns were a knife," commented San Mateo County prosecutor Steve Wagstaffe.

Ramirez was sentenced to 364 days in the county jail, in addition to having to pay $1,000 in restitution fees. He is being held on $25,000 bail. However, he isn't eligible to post the bail because he emigrated illegally from Mexico, Wagstaffe explained.

Immigration officials have placed a hold on Ramirez, who is an illegal immigrant. The authorities could deport him upon his release from prison.
