A 'Moonshiners' star was arrested and has been charged with public intoxication.

Police in Danville, Virginia announced on Tuesday, March 12 that they had arrested Steven Ray Tickle of the TV show 'Moonshiners', according to the Associated Press.

The authorities reported that they arrested and charged 'Tickle', the 'Moonshiners' star, at a convenience store on Thursday.

Police say they received a report of a man sitting in the parking lot of a 'Stop and Shop' drinking.

When police arrived, they saw 'Moonshiners' Tickle sitting with an open container and smelling of alcohol.

35-year-old Tickle was released from the Danville City Jail later on Thursday. It was unclear if he had hired an attorney.

A spokesman for the network that airs 'Moonshiners', The Discovery Channel, didn't immediately return a call requesting a comment.

'Moonshiners' follows a group of people making the illegal homemade alcoholic beverage known as 'moonshine'. The show's website has a bio of Tickle, describing him as a "hard working still hand who loves moonshine."

The Discovery Channel docudrama series follow the lives of people who produce moonshine in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina, Virginia and South Carolina.

The series dramatizes their liquor production efforts, law-avoiding techniques, and general lifestyle.

However, local officials have claimed that the show doesn't accurately portray life in their towns.

Virginia authorities have also stated that no illegal liquor is actually produced by the people profiled in the show.

In March 2012, the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control spokeswoman said, "If illegal activity was actually taking place, the Virginia Bureau of Law Enforcement would have taken action," according to The Associated Press.

Regardless of whether or not the moonshiners actually make illegal liquor, it seems that they can nonetheless access it.

Tickle hasn't yet released a statement on his arrest and charge for public intoxication, but he talks about moonshine in the clip below.
