Reggie Bush Rumors Over: Running Back Signs With Detroit Lions In Four-Year Deal, Says "It Almost Seems Too Perfect"

Reggie Bush rumors on the running back signing with the Detroit Lions can officially be laid to rest. Reggie Bush is now a Detroit Lion, in what is considered a home run signing for Detroit who’s in dire need of help running the game.

The free agent running back Reggie Bush has agreed to the terms of the team, according to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com.

No financial details have been reported on the deal, but according to Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com, the contract spans four years.

The multi-faceted running back is a former No. 2 overall pick, who spent the last two seasons with the Miami Dolphins trying to prove he can be a featured back. Now he’ll get the chance to take the bulk of the load with the Lions as well.

Bush, who also had a visit scheduled with the Cardinals, will step into a backfield that has been without Jahvid Best. It also includes Mikel Leshoure.

The Cardinals was clearly interested, but Bush was determined and had his eyes on the Lions, who possesses more offensive firepower. The Lions, who relied too heavily on wideout Calvin Johnson, will have the opportunity to better utilize Bush’s skills as a receiver out of the backfield.

After signing the contract, Bush said that “To have guys that caliber, Calvin Johnson and Barry Sanders, I believe, mentioned me on Twitter, it means a lot to have support like this.”

He continued, “This is the first time I’d been a free agent. This is uncharted waters for me. I was very nervous. I got about two, three hours of sleep, just thinking about all the possibilities. We had such great meetings, it almost seemed too perfect.”

When Bush sleeps though, it seems like his dreams would involve visions of him playing in the same offense team as Johnson.

“It’s a running back’s dream, watching film, seeing those safeties deep and those safeties rolling over to double-over Calvin,” Bush said.

The move has been applauded by Bush’s new teammates, welcoming him with open arms with their messages.

Lions offensive guard Rob Sims said, “Definitely where we are, he definitely would be the missing piece. With our aerial attack and he can catch the ball the way we can out of the backfield and some of the other running game stuff we got in place, I think it’s tailor-made for him.”

Bush records show that he has 950 rush yards and 30 or more catches in two straight seasons. The last time a Lions player had similar stats was in 1997 and 1998 with Barry Sanders.
