Four Killed In Shooting Spree In Upstate New York Is On The Loose; 64-Year-Old Kurt Myers Is The Suspect Of Shooting And Killing Four And Being Searched By Police

A gunman is on the loose as four people were killed in a mass shooting spree in upstate New York early Wednesday morning.

According to the Utica Observer-Dispatch, two people were fatally shot at a car wash in Herkimer, N.Y.

Four more people were shot at a barber shop in Mohawk, N.Y., across the Mohawk river. Two of them died.

Police have identified the suspect of this mass shooting as 64-year-old Kurt Myers, a Mohawk resident whom they say they are familiar with. He is said to be armed and extremely dangerous.

Around the same time of the shootings, a fire broke out at an apartment building in Mohawk near the barbershop. According to WKTV, witnesses say there was an "explosion." Police were at the apartment building and were seen removing firearms from it and told the AP that they believe the fire has a connection with the shootings.

Authorities told the AP the home belongs to Myers.

The villages are on opposite sides of the Mohawk River in a region known as the Mohawk Valley.

As an ongoing search for Myers ensues, all the nearby schools were on lockdown.

"Everybody's on lockdown, all the schools, the college, the village," Amanda Viscomi, Herkimer's acting clerk-treasurer told the AP. "It's very, very scary."
