Emma Watson Opens Up On Ex Boyfriend Matt Janey; 'Beauty And The Beast' Star Asks Fashion Bigwigs On Gender Equality

Emma Watson went on a semi-hiatus prior to her split from then boyfriend Matt Janey as "Beauty and the Beast" star questioned designers in line with her advocacy on gender equality.

In an interview with Vogue UK, "I felt really uncomfortable."

"Even before my relationship ended, I went on a silent retreat, because I really wanted to figure out how to be at home with myself," she said.

"Beauty and the Beast" star Emma Watson stayed in the Rocky Mountains in Canada to find herself even while she was still with boyfriend Matt Janey. In the retreat house, she was forbidden to speak a single word to anybody for a week.

But the actress claimed that she's got a good experience with men that she dated.

"I certainly haven't found that with doing all that I do or being all that I am, that I've struggled in my love life," she said.

Emma Watson and boyfriend Matt Janney split in December of last year after dating for less than a year.

As part of her cover for Vogue UK, however, Emma Watson also served as celebrity interviewer for the bigwigs in the fashion industry such as Stella McCartney, Bella Freud, Jonathan Saunders and Erdem Moralioglu, said WWD.com.

The "Beauty and the Beast" star, who also served as a UN ambassador, asked three pertinent questions such as the challenges faced by women designers, what they can do to foster gender equality and what are their dreams for the industry in the future. The questions are part of Emma Watson's own HeForShe campaign.

Stella McCartney said the industry have "to give a better message to women of all ages, all sizes and all nationalities. We need to allow women to feel comfortable with who they are."

"Freud comments that equality between men and women 'is about fair pay, about equal pay,' and that there should be 'maternity leave for men as well as women.'"
