Despite developing a cult following, and Hugh Dancy earning more female fans, "Hannibal" consistent poor ratings forced the network to cancel the series altogether.

NBC chairman Robert Greenblatt had total confidence about the quality of "Hannibal" despite it being cancelled.

He said, "There are many, many superb shows like Hannibal and many other shows that don't garner any award nominations. I don't think quality is really equated just with awards."

The NBC exec also hinted that they almost renewed "Hannibal" for another season, but multiple factors prevented them from doing so.

"All decisions are close. You look at where you are in terms of the storytelling, and you look at the ratings and you look at the profits and loss of the show and all of those things. And they're all really tough calls. We just decided it was time to move on," he decided.

 It was also reported that Amazon was supposed to make an order for "Hannibal" after it was cancelled by NBC, but the plan didn't pan out.

But Amazon Studios head exec Roy Price said that they are not really looking to revive shows like "Hannibal" after they were cancelled by other networks.

"We occasionally look at shows that could be revived. Often it's complicated from a business point of view," he said.

The exec continued, "The thing about extending a show is that you would always be doing -- this is not a reflection on Hannibal in particular -- but you would always be doing that or you would usually be doing that, let's say, instead of doing the first season of a new show."

Meanwhile, Hugh Dancy put the final nail on the rumors that "Hannibal" will be revived by other networks after its cancellation after signing on to join, "The Way," over at Hulu.

According to TV Line, Hugh Dancy "will play cult leader Cal Roberts, who is the charismatic face of the movement, which is known as The Way. As he battles personal demons and strives to take the organization into its next generation, Cal develops a complicated relationship with Monaghan's Sarah and Paul's Eddie."
