No matter how many times Shonda Rhimes tries to explain why Patrick Dempsey was booted from "Grey's Anatomy," conspiracy theorists insist that their rumors feud and the actor acting like a diva had something to do with his exit.

During the Television Critics Association press tour, the "Grey's Anatomy" creator explained that the options were limited for Patrick Dempsey's character Derek on the series.

She said, "Derek was going to walk out on Meredith and leave her high and dry, and what was that going to mean? That was going to suggest that their love was not true, that the thing we said for 11 years was a lie, and McDreamy wasn't McDreamy."

Shonda Rhimes continued about Patrick Dempey's exit on "Grey's Anatomy," "For me, that was untenable. Meredith and Derek's love had to remain Meredith and Derek's love. So as painful as that was for me as a storyteller, the only way to preserve what felt true to me was that Derek was going to have to die in order for that to remain honest."

The alternative was for Derek to become the bad guy in the fans' eyes because he walked out on his wife and kids.

"To me, that was the only way to make Meredith and Derek's magic remain true and remain frozen in time," she said of Patrick Dempsey being killed off the "Grey's Anatomy."

Still, that doesn't prevent the tabloids from speculating that the actor's alleged affair with a staff had something to do with his exit from "Grey's Anatomy."

A source told Radar Online, as shared by Celebrity Dirty Laundry, that the affair by Patrick Dempsey with somebody at work was the reason for her divorce from Jillian Fink back in January.

The source alleged, "Patrick's affair with the staffer on the show began last August. It was obvious to everyone Patrick was [sleeping with] her. It got very messy and emotional on set and became a huge liability."
