'Wayward Pines' Renewal For Season 2 In The Cards For M. Night Shyamalan?

If director M. Night Shaymalan had his way, "Wayward Pines" should be up for renewal for season 2.

In an interview with Fox5 NY, the "Sixth Sense" director said that there's a lot of story to be told still for the series.

"I did the TV show and I did 'The Visit' the same year," he said. "The show became the number one scripted show of the summer. It was a giant hit and everyone started asking are you going to do a second season."

"I've been talking with the author. I need to know the end," the director added. "I'm working with the writers. If I can think of an end and work backwards then I'll do it. In TV I need to know there is an end point."

The cliffhanger in the pilot season had many fans wondering about a "Wayward Pines" renewal for season 2.

Showrunner Chad Hodge, however, told Entertainment Weekly that the story was not meant to last two seasons and he doesn't think Fox is going to renew the show.

"It was the end. Period," he said. "Really what it does is it comes full circle. Just as Ethan woke up in episode 1 and found himself in this strange town of Wayward Pines, in a hospital bed with a nurse standing above him, and then he walks up Main St. to find this strangely odd town and people staring at him, it's actually partly shot-for-shot exactly what we did in the first episode as Ben comes up Main St. and sees people starring at him."

The showrunner added that "Wayward Pines" is not up for season 2 renewal because the end was "meant to be full circle that Ben is now experiencing, in a way, exactly what his father experienced when he came to Wayward Pines."

At the end, Ben realized that "not that much has changed, but in fact, things have maybe gotten a little worse.
