Samsung's South Korean Factory Blasts K-Pop In Outdoor Speakers Disguised As Rocks: Psychologists Told Company It Would Reduce Stress [VIDEO]

K-pop is pumped into speakers disguised as rocks in at Samsung's flagship smartphone manufacturing facility Gumi in South Korea, according to an article in last week's Bloomberg Businessweek.

The clandestine K-pop getting played at the Samsung factory, located 150 miles south of Seoul, was the idea of mental health professional's according to the Bloomberg piece.

"The first thing you notice about Gumi is the K-pop," reporter Sam Grobart writes. "Korean pop music seems to be everywhere outside...the music, a Samsung spokeswoman explains, is selected by a team of psychologists to help reduce stress among employees."

More than 10,000 workers are employed at Samsung's Gumi factory, most of them in their early 20s. It is not hard to understand why K-pop is so popular there.

And Samsung's Gumi is more than just a job site. For many of the factory workers it is also home. In addition to the coffee shop and other amenities on the Gumi campus there are also dormitories where many unmarried factory workers live.

The dorms include dining rooms, fitness centers and libraries.

Samsung workers produced 400 million phones in 2012. That's a dozen phones-a-second.

Inside Gumi, Samsung workers stand at three-sided workbenches. Each factory worker assembles their own phones, with all the tools they need provided on the bench.

Samsung has long been associated with K-Pop

Son Dam Bi and After School even wrote a song about Samsung's AMOLED technology in 2009 called (fittingly)"Amoled."

"Your eyes might just be blinded by my intense clarity," Son Dam-bi and After School sing in Korean during the song. "Those shadowy pupils might just be opened wide. I'm a girl who shines all on her own, just bling like silver & gold. AMOLED, vivid like a rainbow."

Last month, former After School bandmates Bekah and Son Dam Bi reunited in Bekah's hometown of Hawaii.

"Hawaii with Bekah ehhehehe," Son Dam Bi wrote on Twitter, along with several snapshots.

Fans were excited to see the pair back reunited.

"It's nice to see Bekah again," tweeted one fan.

"Son Dam Bi and Bekah are adorable," wrote another. "Enjoy the warm weather in Hawaii."

On Wednesday baby pictures of Son Dam Bi materialized online.

"Beauty is definitely something she was born with," a fan told allkpop.com.

"Son Dam Bi looks like she could have modeled for a children's book," wrote another.
