Atlanta Falcons’ Greg McCrary Passes Away At Age 61

Greg McCray passed away on Tuesday after suffering a cardiac arrest, which put him into a coma on Saturday. His brother Phil confirmed the 61-year-old former NFL player's death to The Atlanta Journal Constitution.

After suffering a cardiac arrest McCrary was put on life support. His family and friends gathered around his bed knowing the end was near and wanting to say good-bye. There is no word on when the funeral will be.

Phil McCrary told the AJC, "We appreciate the sympathy and prayers for the family - that goes a long ways. But he is in a better place now. He is in a better place."

McCrary was a fifth round draft pick for the Atlanta Falcons in 1975. He was a tight end, playing in 74 NFL games with 13 game starts. Before the NFL Greg McCrary played college ball with Clark Atlanta University.

After the NFL McCrary go on to coach at Cedar Grove. He leaves behind a son, following in the footsteps of his father. Johnathon McCrary is a quarterback from Cedar Grover. He will play college football at Vanderbilt University.  

Greg McCrary passed away as a result of heart problems, which led to a cardiac arrest. A cardiac arrest occurs when the heart abruptly stops pumping blood due to failure of the muscle to contract during systole, according to newsmedical.net.
