Yahoo Seeking Deeper Integration Into Apple Inc.’s iOS Software For iPhone, iPad

Yahoo! Inc. wants to strengthen its relationship with Apple Inc. for a deeper integration into iOS. Yahoo already runs the default Weather and Stocks apps in iOS, for both the iPhone and iPad, but Yahoo doesn't want the influence to end there, according to a Wall Street Journal article.

Yahoo is allegedly in discussions with Apple to bring more Yahoo services to iOS, including more ways to deliver sports updates and info to users, and more seamless iOS integration with Yahoo News.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Yahoo wants to integrate more of its data into iOS and specifically, Siri. According to Yahoo's ideal, Apple's voice-controlled personal assistant would utilize Yahoo to report back various information found on the Internet. This seems to be one of Yahoo's main strategies to become more of a force in the mobile world.

Yahoo is stepping into a void once filled by Google, which Apple has moved almost completely away from, as Google has become a bigger competitor in the mobile market with Android.

So, it seems to be a good time for Apple to partner with Yahoo, considering that Yahoo and Google are direct competitors in the 'search engine' market.

Yahoo, according to Slash Gear, is desperate for a strong relationship with Apple, a company with an extremely strong foothold in the mobile realm. The Windows Phone 8 is another option for a potential Yahoo partnership, but Android is completely unavailable.

Yahoo Chief Executive Officer Marissa Mayer has met with Apple senior vice president of Internet Services Eddy Cue to develop ways that Yahoo can be more deeply integrated into iOS software.

However, an insider source familiar with Apple told the Wall Street Journal that the talks might not lead to a deal. Apple often discusses ways to incorporate data and services into its products with other companies.
