Ubisoft CEO Compares 'Assassin's Creed' Movie To 'Batman Begins'; Discusses Tom Hardy And 'Splinter Cell'

Ubisoft Motion Pictures CEO Jean-Julien Baronnet discusses the "Assassin's Creed" movie.

Baronnet revealed that there was no existing script when Michael Fassbender signed up for the film.

"[Michael Fassbender] accepted very quickly," Baronnet told French magazine Premiere, translated by Slash Film. "And it was the only actor which we thought was obvious. So we started with the actor, which is incongruous. Even more incongruous, he engaged us with nothing."

"There was no script, no studio or anything. We told him we were going to build the project together, we have a huge brand and we want to make a make a film with references to feature films like 'Batman Begins' and 'Blade Runner.'"

He also touched on Tom Hardy's upcoming portrayal of special operative Sam Fisher in the live-action adaptation of "Splinter Cell."

"This is obviously attractive for intelligent players like Michael Fassbender and Tom Hardy. It is like a huge studio because it has huge brand, but it is a small structure, he explained. "And it will remain like that, you do not want to become bigger. Tom Hardy was also evident on Splinter Cell. We had the same discussion and it is also committed immediately."

"Tom is a gamer and he loves the world of Splinter Cell, he added. "We worked a lot with him on the character."

He also shared that the company is limiting the creative development of their franchises to as few people as possible.

"Our approach is to remain in control of the development, so to finance it 100%. We choose writers who are not necessarily stars but people who have understood the universe."

Directed by Justin Kurzel, the "Assassin's Creed" movie stars "X-Men: Days of Future Past" actor Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard (The Dark Knight Rises), Michael K. Williams (Boardwalk Empire) and French actress Ariane Labed (Fidelio: Alice's Journey).

The "Assassin's Creed" movie arrives in theaters on Dec. 21, 2016. "Splinter Cell" has no official release date yet.
