Jonathan Winters Dies Of Natural Causes: The Former Comedian, Radio Personality And Known From Being On 'Mork And Mindy' Died In California [VIDEO]

Former T.V. star from the hit-show "Mork and Mindy" Jonathan Winters died Thursday night.

Winters died last night of natural causes in Montecito, Calif, around 6:30 p.m., surrounded by friends and family, TMZ reported.

He was a staple on the late night TV circuit for decades, according to TMZ. A regular with Johnny Carson, Winters was able to gain more notoriety. He even recorded a few comedy albums, which helped to his success in the 70s and 80s.

Born in Dayon, Ohio, Winters career began as a result of a lost wristwatch, about six or seven months after his marriage to Eileen Winters. The newlyweds couldn't afford to buy another one. Then, Eileen read about a talent contest in which the first prize was a wristwatch. She encouraged her husband to do it and win it, which he did. This led to a radio gig and comedy acts.

In an interview with the Archive of American Television, Winters reported that he suffered a nervous breakdown and spent eight months in a private mental hospital for a nervous breakdown in 1959 and again in 1961.

He might be most known for being a character on "Mork and Mindy," which was a sitcom that broke out the career of Robin Williams.

Winter's latest role in a movie was "Smurfs" and the production of "Smurfs 2."
