Android Updated Facebook Messenger App Offers Facebook Home’s Defining Feature, “Chat Heads”

Facebook Home has been scheduled for release today, but the standalone Messenger app update for Android has already arrived, bringing Chat Heads, Facebook Home's defining feature, to most Android devices.

So, when Android users are using other apps or on the home screen, updated Messenger texts will pop up with the Chat Head icon of the person messaging the user and the first line of the message. The user can thus quickly jump into a chat with their friend without leaving the current app. It makes messaging extremely fast and easy.

Users can dismiss the conversation by swiping down from a Chat Heads message.

The feature displays multiple incoming conversations and lets you switch between them, over any other apps Android users are using. The feature makes Messenger a huge threat to other messaging apps offered by placing messages where you can access them with incredible ease.

The only potential downside is becoming overwhelmed by a huge influx of messages. But, the Chat Heads Messenger can be disabled at any time from the app's Settings menu.

Chat Heads Facebook Messenger can be programmed to field text messages, in addition to Facebook messages, by enabling the change in Settings under "SMS/MMS."

The Updated Facebook Messenger is available from the Google Play store for free for all Android phones.

Although Facebook Home is available for download for the Galaxy S3 and the HTC One X, if you don't want Facebook to completely take over the front of your phone with Cover Feed (Newsfeed), you can simply use its best feature, the Chat Heads, through its own App.
