'Suicide Squad' Character Details Revealed! Director Teases Love Between Harley Quinn, Joker And Deadshot

Below is a rundown of "Suicide Squad" characters and their backgrounds as published by Empire Magazine.

Viola Davis of "How To Get Away With Murder" fame reveals that she researched on the psychology of sociopaths in preparation for her role as Amanda Waller, the covert agent who handpicked the members of "Suicide Squad."

"She's relentless in her villainy," Waller told Empire of her character. "When you look at her, there's nothing that seems dangerous. Her only power is her intelligence and her complete lack of guilt."

Screen Rant speculates that Waller, in many ways, will function as the true villain of the film's narrative. This coincides with the rumors that Waller considers all super-powered beings as a threat and that she keeps "trophies" taken from them over the years.

"Thor: The Dark World" actor Akkinuoye-Agbaje plays Waylon Jones a.k.a. Killer Croc, a villain from the DC universe who suffers from a severe medical condition which gives him an appearance similar to a reptile.

Little is known about his character and how significant he will be in the film. Agbaje describes his character as a "a cannibal with rage issues. Although he only eats the most talented people. He's picky."

"Wolf of Wall Street" star Margot Robbie plays Harley Quinn (formerly Dr. Harleene Quinzel), the Joker's love interest.

"Harley is easily distracted, but up for following orders if it means destroying things," says the film's cast and crew.

She will also share an intimate connection with Will Smith's character Floyd Lawton a.k.a. Deadshot. Director David Ayer claims that the film will depict their unhealthy relationship.

"It's about [Harley] breaking free of The Joker and becoming this fully actualised, independent person," Ayer said. "That really is a metaphor for everyone's journey here."

The cast also includes Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerance, Cara Delevigne as Enchantress, Jared Leto as the Joker, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Adam Beach as Slipknot and Jay Hernandez as El Diablo.

"Suicide Squad" arrives on Aug. 5, 2016.
