Acclaimed actress Greta Gerwig (Mistress America, Frances Ha) is the latest name added to the biopic Jackie, which stars Portman as the title character.
The film is based on the life of former First Lady Jackie Kennedy after the assassination of her husband, President John F. Kennedy in Dallas in 1963. Gerwig will reportedly play one of her aides.
Peter Sarsgaard will play President John F. Kennedy's brother Robert.
Natalie Portman will play Jacqueline Kennedy in the new drama "Jackie." The film will cover the days following the assassination of President John. F. Kennedy.
"'Jackie' talks about the days when Jackie Kennedy becomes an icon but has lost everything," said Wild Bunch's Vincent Maraval. "It's the 'Black Swan' team reunited for Pablo Larrain," Maraval added.
"Jackie" will be directed by Pablo Larrain, who made the film "No." Larrain is currently directing the Funny Balloons film "Neruda," which hits theaters in June.
The movie is being produced by Darren Aronofsky and his partner Scott Franklin at Protozoa Pictures and Juan de Dios Larrain of Chile's Fabula.
The part of Jackie was originally conceived for Rachel Weisz.
Pablo Larrain, who directed "No" and "The Club," will helm the movie. The screenplay was written by by Noah Oppenheim (The Divergent Series: Allegiant, The Maze Runner).
"Jackie" goes into production at the end of 2015.
There are also rumors that Natalie Portman will be "Thor" for Marvel. The female Thor was recently revealed to be astrophysicist Jane Foster. This led to speculation that Natalie Portman may be the new Thor after Chris Hemsworth's contract ends.
Hemsworth is already cast as Thor for "Thor: Ragnarok," and "Avengers: Infinity War Parts I and II."
