'Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu' Anime Release Date, Cast, Staff, And Trailer Revealed [VIDEO]

If you're a fan of period pieces, you may have noticed that this season did not contain many series that took place in this universe, let alone in the past.

Luckily, there's a new period anime series coming this winter to give fans a taste of Japan's past.

The official website for "Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu" anime series is now streaming a new trailer. The new trailer is available to view below. The "Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu" anime release date is currently set for Jan. 8.

So far, fans in ANN forum appear to be interested in the "Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu" anime series.

"This looks good. Also, the music sounds great," said Lord Dcast.

"Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu" will be directed by Mamoru Hatakeyama with series composition by Jun Kumagai. Characters for the series are designed by Mieko Hosoi. Studio DEEN is handling the animation production.

For those who are not familiar with the original manga series by Haruko Kumota, the following is a summary of "Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu" story:

"The anime's first story revolves around a mature prisoner who was released on good behavior during Japan's Showa Genroku era (1960s to early 1970s). He is called Yotarō by others, a term that means an "anti-hero" or a "dim-witted man."

"When he returns to society, he starts a new life in rakugo (comic storytelling). Touched by Yakumo's role as the "grim reaper," he asks the master to take him in as an apprentice."
