'Star Wars 7' Actor Andy Serkis Revealed Playing Villain Supreme Leader Snoke Scared Him

"Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens" actor Andy Serkis discusses his mysterious villain character "Supreme Leader Snoke."

According to Screen Rant, Snoke will "essentially" be the movie's Emperor Palpatine, serving as the head of the First Order and mentor to Kylo Ren.

The "Lord of The Rings" star sat down with Empire and elaborated on how he filmed his scenes for "Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens."

"It was quite an unusual situation," Andy Serkis admitted. "I worked specifically with Domhnall Gleeson and with Adam Driver. My first day was basically standing on a 25-foot podium doing Lord Snoke without the faintest idea what he looked like... or in fact who he was! I was very high up, totally on my own, away from everybody else, but acting with them."

"We used sort of a 'Kongolizer' method of having sound come out of speakers to give a sense of scale and distance for the character. So it was very challenging and scary, in fact probably one of my most scary film experiences I've ever had."

Serkis previously indicated that makeup alone would have been impossible to realize his character's damaged facial features. He reiterated his previous statement and adds that Supreme Leader Snoke is more complex than any of the previous "Star Wars" villains.

"He is severely damaged," Andy Serkis revealed. "Although he's a powerful leader, he comes across as vulnerable. Very scarred and disfigured."

Directed by J.J. Abrams, the film stars Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, Domnhall Gleeson, Max Von Sydow, Gwendoline Christie, Adam Driver and Lupita Nyong'O.

"Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens" takes place 30 years after the events of 1983's "Return of the Jedi." Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and his allies face a new threat from the Dark Side's Kylo Ren (Kylo Ren) and his army of Stormtroopers.

With Andy Serkis hinting his role for "Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens, the movie is set to open on Dec. 18, 2015.
