'X-Men: Apocalypse' Synopsis Released! Film To Be The Last For The Superhero Franchise?

The "X-Men: Apocalypse" synopsis has been released.

The synopsis was revealed after 20th Century Fox announced its promotional partnership with Mars Chocolate North American for the upcoming movie, according to a report by Screen Rant.

"Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel's X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible," reads the "X-Men: Apocalypse" synopsis.

"Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign."

"As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction."

The Hollywood Reporter claims the upcoming film serves as a "conclusion" to the arc that began with 2011's "X-Men: First Class," although many are speculating that its also a prequel to the untitled "X-Men" film scheduled for 2018.

"Apocalypse" marks the final film for several series stars including Nicholas Hoult and Jennifer Lawrence, who both have reached the end of their multi-picture contracts with 20th Century Fox.

It will reprise Michael Fassbender as Magneto, James McAvoy as Charles Xavier, and introduce Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan and Alexandra Shipp as younger versions of Jean Grey, Cyclops and Storm, respectively. Also starring are Olivia Munn as Psylocke, Lana Condor as Jubilee and Oscar Isaac as the titular villain.

The movie is helmed by "Days of Future Past" director Bryan Singer.

With the official synopsis revealed, "X-Men: Apocalypse" releases in theaters on May 6, 2016.
