"True Detective" actress Alexandra Daddario will play a female lead role in the "Baywatch" reboot movie.
Following the success of the "21 Jump Street" reboot, Hollywood will soon see another reboot of another classic TV series - "Baywatch."
Screen Rant has already confirmed the participation of Dwayne Johnson (Furious 7, San Anreas) and Zac Efron (Neighbors, That Awkward Moment), but now it seems that the film has cast its first female lead star.
Johnson, who costarred with Daddario in "San Andreas," officially broke the news on his Instagram account, announcing that the actress has officially been cast to play a character named "Summer."
Johnson didn't elaborate too much beyond that, but it seems that Daddario's Summer may be based on Roberta "Summer" Quinn, which was previously portrayed by Nicole Eggert in the original 90's TV series.
While Alexandra Daddario is the first female lead to be cast in the "Baywatch" reboot movie, Johnson clarified that more actors will be added to the roster. In addition to Daddario, he teased that an actress will soon be announced to play the iconic role of C.J. Parker, portrayed and popularized by Pamela Anderson in the original "Baywatch" series.
Various sources claim that the reboot will offer a comedic spin on the franchise rather than straight-forward action. According to Coming Soon, the latest writers that have been attached to the project are "Friday the 13th" scribes Mike Swift and Damian Shannon.
With Alexandra Daddario and Dwayne Johnson in the film, the official release date for the "Baywatch" movie is yet to be announced by the producers.
