The LA Lakers continue to struggle as to find the right blend early this season. There's the declining play of Kobe Bryant, and the lack of support from the bench.
Also, the second overall pick of this year's draft, D'Angelo Russell, has yet to find his place in the rotation as he is overshadowed by Jordan Clarkson and Lou Williams in the backcourt.
In the game against the Golden State Warriors, he only managed to score eight points, and grab four rebounds. In 14 games, Russell is averaging 10.2 ppg, 4.4 rpg and 2.9 apg.
With that said, his head coach, Byron Scott won't give him more minutes and worse, he finds himself riding the bench for the remainder of some games.
The Ohio State product said he is completely aware of the situation and he knows it is one of the challenges he needs to overcome as a rookie.
"It's something I've got to deal with," he told Baxter Holmes of ESPN. "It's something that I'm capable of. It's all about opportunity, taking advantage of your opportunity. But I definitely know I'm capable."
For head coach Byron Scott, he wants his rookie to take the situation constructively as this will also serve as a learning experience for him. In fact, Byron Scott wants the young point guard to play at least 30-35 minutes a night but he needs to earn it first according to Roto World.
"I've got to balance that-just knowing [Russell is] young," Scott said. "And he's going to have to experience that stuff as far as the fourth quarter when the game is on the line, because that's the only way he's going to really learn."
Will he finally break the rookie wall and include his name in the conversation for Rookie of the Year? Stay tuned.
