The post-apocalyptic comic book-based film "Snowpiercer" is being turned into a TV series.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tommorow Studios has enlisted Josh Friedman (The Sarah Connor Chronicles) to helm the project. Details on the "Snowpiercer" TV series have yet to be revealed, but the report confirms that Bong is on board as a producer along with Dooho Choi and Chan-wook Park, who also produced the original film.
Friedman spoke about the upcoming "Snowpiercer" TV series in an interview published Screen Rant.
"I couldn't be more excited for the opportunity...I'm a huge fan of director Bong's films, especially Snowpiercer," Friedman stated. "I'm a huge fan of Bong's films, especially Snowpiercer. It's great the way the best sci-fi is great - thoughtful, political, funny, scary and sly. And it's on a train. A big f***ing train. What more could you want?"
The 2014 sci-fi thriller was based on a French graphic novel adapted by Korean director Bong Joon-ho (The Host, Mother) marking his first English language film. The film features Chris Evans (Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Age of Ultron), Jamie Bell (Fantastic Four, Jumper), Song Kang-ho (The Throne, The Attorney), John Hurt (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Skeleton Key), Ed Harris (Run All Night, The Rock) and Tilda Swinton (Doctor Strange, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button).
The film takes place 18 years after the Earth froze. The remaining humans are settled on the Snowpiercer, a train on an infinite loop around the globe. Elites inhabit the extravagant front car while the "scum" live in brutal conditions in the tail. Curtis (played by Evans) leads an uprising to change the social order.
The "Snowpiercer" TV series is still in the early development stages and has no release date yet.
