The "Samurai Jack" fandom is blowing up after the recent announcement of its return to television, but there is one question that is one everyone's minds.
On Wednesday, Adult Swim officially premiered a brief teaser for "Samurai Jack," with a release date set for some time in 2016.
"Creator and executive producer Genndy Tartakovsky continues the epic story with a new season," wrote Adult Swim on Facebook.
Given that the titular character is returning, fans are assuming that the shape-shifting demon Aku will as well. Unfortunately, legendary voice actor Mako Iwamatsu passed away in 2006 after the "Samurai Jack" television finale.
For observers who know Mako's work, an alternative has been presented. After his death, voice actor Greg Baldwin took over the role of Iroh on "Avatar: The Last Airbender" and "The Legend of Korra."
"I can't wait for 'Samurai Jack' to come back," commented Jimessentialelements on TVLine. "I want new stories, new adventures and a conclusion of the show. But it won't be the same without Mako. I hope the actor they get does a good job or at least sounds similar to him."
In 2013, IDW Publishing announced a partnership with Cartoon Network Enterprises to produce comics based on its properties, one of which included "Samurai Jack."
"Many of these Cartoon Network shows have only grown in popularity since they originally aired," said Chris Ryall, IDW's Chief Creative Officer/Editor-in-Chief in an official press release.
After 20 issues following the continuing adventures of Jack, the comic series concluded in May of this year. It is possible that the return of "Samurai Jack" to television will incorporate some of the story established in the comics.
