Twentieth Century Fox finally come through with the "X-Men: Apocalypse" trailer release.
The final film in the "X-Men" reboot trilogy, which many are calling the biggest installment to date, will close the arc that began with 2011's "First Class."
It will feature more characters from the comics than any of the previous films. While "Apocalypse" functions as the trilogy's conclusion, director Bryan Singer calls his movie the "true birth" of the X-Men, which could lead to the expansion of the franchise's shared cinematic universe.
As many speculated, the newly released "X-Men: Apocalypse" trailer shows the same footage that was exclusively screened at San Diego Comic-Con in July, opening with a young Jean Grey waking from a nightmare where she saw the end of the world - which is no suprise since the team will be going to war against the most powerful mutant villain to date.
The release of the "X-Men: Apocalypse" trailer introduces the title villain a.k.a. En Sabah Nur, the very first mutant. As previously established in the after credits scene of "X-Men: Days of Future Past," Apocalypse is thousands of years old, comes from ancient Egypt and plans on liberating all the Earth's mutants to eradicate its "blind leaders."
The preview also introduces Apocalypse's Four Horsemen - which consists of Warren Worthington III a.k.a. Archangel, Ororo Munroe a.k.a. Storm, Betsy Braddock a.k.a. Psylocke and Erik Lehnsherr a.k.a. Magneto.
How Apocalypse recruited his Four Horsemen is still yet to be revealed, "but in the comics he's able to use his own powers and that of alien technology to manipulate and enhance himself and his servants," according to Screen Rant.
"Apocalypse" marks the final film for several series stars - both Nicholas Hoult and Jennifer Lawrence have revealed that it is the last "X-Men" film in their multi-picture contract. Furthermore, Halle Berry, James Marsden and Famke Janssen who have played Storm, Cyclops and Jean Grey in all of the previous films have given up their roles to younger talents Alexandra Shipp, Tye Sheridan and Sophie Turner.
"X-Men: Apocalypse" releases on May 27, 2016.
