Korean-American rapper LK is celebrating the new year with an original song called "Music Inspired Me," featuring the singer Phoebe Choi, which he shared Saturday on social media.
The New Jersey-based hip-hop artist, whose name stands for Elbert Kim, took some time to discuss the song's origin as well as what he's up to in the upoming year in an exclusive interview on Monday.
"2016 is going to be a great year for music," LK said. "I found my way back to enjoying the process again."
The artist was eager to talk about the teamwork that went into his new single.
"'Music Inspired Me' was produced by Peter Chang who is a talented producer who started making his own beats," LK said.
"Phoebe Choi is a senior at Rutgers University. She's involved in many leadership roles ranging from being a dance coordinator and leading ministry worships. She has been on talent search shows such as 'K-Pop Star,' 'SuperStar K' and 'MBC Star Audition.' Her dream is to sing and we shared the opportunity to create music at SweetSounds Studio in New York."
For LK, music is all about the creative journey.
"I understand we are not celebrities, but this project of structuring the song and putting our visions together to reality was a learning experience," he said. "Our passions got together to create a positive song, and it inspired us. The act of making was inspiring."
LK recorded his first song when he was 14 years old. He has appeared on the audition program "Dream Stage" and has been frequently collaborates with his rap crew COLONY. According to the veteran performer, the coming year looks promising.
"I will be collaborating with many artists this year to create good music," LK said.
"That is the ultimate aim now, just to make good, enjoyable music. Also, I want to try experimenting with concept videos like music videos with a theme. I am going to dedicate my time to create an album, which will hopefully come out in the summer or in the fall of this year."
