Former K-pop idol Seungri, once a member of the globally renowned boy band BIGBANG, is reportedly exploring opportunities to re-enter the entertainment industry with a focus on ventures in China.
This comes just over two years after his release from prison following his conviction in the high-profile Burning Sun scandal. According to media reports, Seungri traveled to China last month, sparking speculation about his plans to launch new business ventures. While no concrete details have been confirmed, sources suggest that he remains interested in the entertainment sector and has been meeting with acquaintances and former business partners to discuss potential opportunities.
Seungri was previously seen at a club in China. That said, it was not immediately clear why he was at the club at the time.
Despite reports, the former K-pop idol denied claims that he was planning to launch any business activities and claimed his recent trips were personal.
"It's not true that I'm considering re-entering the entertainment or cultural business. I recently met with a few people I worked with in the past, but it was just a casual meal to catch up," he said.
"I currently reside in Korea and my recent overseas trips were personal — either attending friends' weddings or taking a break. I have not had any business meetings or made any plans for new ventures abroad," he added.
The former idol has faced intense public scrutiny since the Burning Sun scandal erupted in 2018. The scandal involved allegations of prostitution mediation, embezzlement, illegal gambling, and other crimes linked to a nightclub he co-managed. Seungri was sentenced to 18 months in prison after admitting guilt to multiple charges. He was released in February 2023 but has continued to face criticism for his lack of public remorse and ongoing high-profile appearances.
Since his release, Seungri has severed ties with BIGBANG and YG Entertainment but has been seen leveraging the group's fame by singing their songs during public appearances.
