South Korean Entertainment Powerhouse CJ E&M Acquires Hip-Hop Label AOMG

On Wednesday, South Korean entertainment powerhouse CJ E&M announced that it had acquired hip-hop label AOMG.

In an announcement by CJ E&M Music Business Unit, the company stated that it had "acquired AOMG, today's trendiest hip-hop label." AOMG (Above Ordinary Music Group) was founded as an indie hip hop label by Jay Park in 2013. Since 2014, Simon D. has served as a co-CEO.

AOMG's roster includes numerous DJs, rappers, singers, and producers, including the CEO's Gray, Loco, DJ Pumpkin, Elo, and Ugly Duck.

The news was shared by AOMG via their social media accounts and the CJ E&M Music Business Unit released a lengthy statement.

"We will support AOMG, which began with hip-hop and R&B music, grow to become the most trendy label pioneering a lifestyle in Korea and abroad in the long run, with our business infrastructure and know-how," said CJ E&M's Ahn Suk Joon.

"We will lead the expansion and development of the music market by discovering various business opportunities."

Jay Park addressed fan concerns on social media Jan. 6. "Nothing changes, only bigger and better things," he wrote on Twitter. Still gonna be doin' shit 'OUR' way."

CJ E&M is home to SG Wannabe and Roy Kim, and also hosts the subsidiary MMO Entertainment. MMO Entertainment's roster currently includes Davichi, Spica, Eric Nam, Park Bo Ram, Hong Dae Kwang, Baek Ji Young, and others.
