Sherlock Season 4 News Update: Sherlock Spinoff In The Works Sherlock Season 4 Will Hit In 2017

Sherlock Season 4 News Update: "Sherlock" season 4 has yet to begin production, but the Series will return in early 2017.

"We do have the next Sherlock announced, coming up about a year from now. As you know, Benedict has gotten to be somewhat popular since we began our work with him and he very much wants to continue with Sherlock," PBS president Paula Kerger said during a recent press conference

"As you know, they are produced almost like films and we're hoping the next one will be about a year from now."

Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman set to return in January 2017 along with regulars Amanda Abbington as Mary Watson, Louise Brealey as Molly Hooper and Jonathan Aris as Anderson.

The detective drama's New Year special, "The Abominable Bride", took lead stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman back in time to the Victorian period.

Last July the BBC announced that filming on Sherlock series 4 would take place during 2015 so the series could air at the end of this year or the very beginning of the next, but filming is now slated for spring 2016.

Showrunner Steven Moffat reportedly plotted the series through a potential fifth season. The fourth was projected to shoot sometime in 2016.

BBC recently announced that the holiday special "Sherlock: The Abominable Bride" drew 11.6 million viewers in the United Kingdom alone. The special was also a big hit in America and China.

"Sherlock" Season 4 will start filming in Spring 2016 but there is no script yet.

"I think definitely Lestrade has got the hots for Molly. So maybe they'll develop that. We don't know what happens until we see the scripts, and that could literally be a couple of weeks before you film." Rupert Graves told Collider in an interview with Allison Kenne.

There also rumors of a spin-off series that will include Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock Holmes and Lara Pulver's Irene Adler.

"Sherlock is Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat's passion project. If it fits to have her back, I know they'll write it; if it doesn't, I trust them to get it right," "Sherlock" season 4 star Lara Pulver told RadioTimes.

"We've got, I think you can safely say, the Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson of a generation - we want to see them do it in the proper outfits, just once," Mark Gatiss told iDigitalTimes.
